The Alcatel-Lucent & ANZA Soccer International Junior Football Challenge 2008 has been one of the biggest youth / kids tournaments in the region and the biggest of its kind in Singapore.
The tournament received a variety of Media Coverage which included a TV broadcast and report on the ESPN TV Nokia Football Crazy show (Thursday 1 May 08, 8pm-9pm, please click here to view a section of the show), a 2 page article in the New Paper (Sunday 4th May 08, please click here for an electronic version of the article) and announcements in the Straits Times (Friday 18th April 08).
We had the privilege to invite some of the kids from the winning teams into the studio for the live section of the Nokia Football Crazy TV show on the ESPN TV Channel. It was great experience for the kids to get on to live TV, meet the presenters and enjoy themselves. Just a fabulous day.
The tournament also received further recognition from the Singapore Sports Council. At the prize giving ceremony we were privileged to have Mr Alex Chan, the Chairman of the SSC as our Guest of Honour. He was kind enough to address the kids and parents, acknowledging their commitment and enthusiasm for the sport. Mr Alex Chan said that “Youth Sports has taken a new dimension in recent years…it is timely for the tournament to take place for the first time in Singapore.”
Similarly the Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Transport, Singapore, Mr Teo Ser Luck agreed that “We are encouraged to see efforts by volunteers and corporate partners playing such an active part in promoting youth sports, especially when Singapore will be hosting the inaugural Youth Olympics in 2010. This is a great opportunity for our youth to play against their peers from various countries and in the course of which strengthen cross-border friendships.”
For us the organiser it will be bigger and better next year, Luke Diaz, General Manager of Football Passion said “The tournament has exceeded our expectations, it is fantastic to see the kids with big smiles on their faces and enjoying every minute of the tournament. Next year there will be more to come.”
Football Passion ensured that the teams and the kids left with some memorabilia to take home and enjoy these are some of the goodies and gifts that they received:
- Every team received a goodie bag with
- our tournament brochure,
- Tournament T-shirts,
- Discount vouchers for ice cream,
