Walkathon at Lycee Francais de Singapour 5April ‘08

Football Passion is proud to have been involved in the annual Walkathon organised by the Lycee Francais de Singapour (LFS, French School in Singapore). The Walkathon is a Humanitarian event in which money is raised for charitable causes in the region.

The principle is simple each pupil runs or walks laps around the LFS stadium and finds a sponsor to donate S$XX for each lap that he/she completes. After completing the laps the money raised will be giving to the Association in exchange for a “Running Laps Certificate.”

This was the 8th edition of the annual LFS Walkathon. This year the Humanitarian Association of the LFS used the funds raised for the 5 following Humanitarian purposes:

  1. Financing the association « Les Oursins » providing legal and social support to kids in jail in The Philippines.
  2. Financing the association « Couleurs de Chine » providing financial support to schools in Mainland China purchasing for them furniture and other necessary equipment following devastating school fires in December 2007.
  3. Financing the association « Krousar Thmey » to rebuilt a school in ruins in Cambodia for blind and deaf kids.
  4. Financing the association « Pour un Sourire d’Enfant (for a child smile) » to rebuild the Phum Russey Cambodia school nursery and purchase medical supplies for the kids there.
  5. Financing the association « La Roue de Secours (The Spare Tyre) » which is providing 197 kids in India with food , medical supplies including vaccinations.

Football Passion and Le Fruit Pte Ltd are proud to have been involved and supporting the event. In addition to the above Football Passion organised 2 friendly football games at the LFS Stadium between Football Passion teams and Home Utd FC teams. The kids played in the Under 10 (U10) age group and in the U14 age group. We were privileged to have the Vice President of the Football Association of Singapore, Mr Zainudin Nordin as a Guest of Honour at the event.

The U10 Football Passion and Home Utd FC kids played an exciting game which saw 10 gaols scored. After 2x25 minutes it was honours even in a heart wrenching 5:5 draw. It was a very exciting game with some exceptional football and a chance for some of the kids to showcase their talent. After the game the Guest of Honour for the football matches Mr Zainudin Nordin (VP of the Football Association of Singapore and Mayor of Central Singapore District and Member of Parliament for the Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC) handed out medals to the next generation of football players.

The U14 were not so lucky. We had an exciting 15 minutes in which the Football Passion kids started to gain the upper hand but eventually the weather gods let it pour together with thunder and lightning and the game had to be abandoned…to be continued at another venue.
